In SENTINEL the assets inventory, a process completed during organisation profiling, is a detailed listing of the assets of the organisation, complete with their details and all information necessary for a risk-based cybersecurity assessment.
This information includes data such as name, description, ownership and deployment model (locality), as well as data necessary for the automatic identification of the asset from MITRE's Official Common Platform Enumeration (CPE) Dictionary, such as vendor, product and version.
Assets flatly added to the organisation in this way cannot directly participate in a cybersecurity risk assessment (CSRA), without first being added and bundled in a processing activity.
For CSRA purposes, a processing activity is a unit which may be considered a business process and all cyber assets associated with it are assessed as a group.
In practice, SENTINEL users may create their assets at both the organisation level and at the PA level. However, only when editing a PA they may create relationships with the PA and previously created assets.
All the assets created in an organisation make up its cyber assets inventory.
